It all started with two little boys named Jerry Hill.

Jerry Hill was just a child when he read in the news about another child named Jerry Hill in the same city. That first spark led to a lifelong fascination with names! As an adult, Hill established an incredibly thorough website, Jerry Hill Presents Names, that continues to charm and inform visitors today. The popularity of that website inspired Hill to establish Celebrate Your Name Week in 1997.

The Names Alliance is an international nonprofit dedicated to increasing awareness of and respect for names as identity. Founded in 2023, they aim to promote the remarkable work of Jerry Hill by updating Celebrate Your Name Week for today's culture. In 2025 they launched International Name Day to encourage people to understand names as a universal human right.
